Community College Sustainability Profiles – Gateway Technical College

Here at the Community College Sustainability Collaborative we’d like to from time to time highlight programs and colleges across the country that are doing a great job in the area of sustainability.  If you know of a particular program or school you would like to see profiled please let us know.

The first college we’d like to profile is Gateway Technical College (GTC) in Southeastern Wisconsin.  Since 2009, GTC has been focused on becoming a more sustainable institution and is a signatory to the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment.  The college has also established a significant action plan and commitment to becoming more sustainable.  This commitment is broad-based and addresses energy, transportation, recycling, building and grounds as well as policy development and procurement.

The college has sustainability related programs in agriculture, energy systems and water resources and has created a Center for Sustainable Living.  The center effectively ties together sustainability programs, acts as a demonstration lab for sustainable practices as well as a place for community and K-12 educators to interface with the college.

Gateway Technical College is doing a great job in moving community college sustainability forward, keep up the good work!
